
Philip Greene is an attorney, writer and cocktail historian. As one of the founders of the Museum of the American Cocktail (based in New Orleans), he serves as treasurer and legal counsel, and is on the Board of Directors. In his main career, Phil is an attorney in Washington, DC, serving as Trademark and Internet Counsel to the U.S. Marine Corps at the Pentagon. Having deep ancestral roots in New Orleans (he also went to law school at Loyola), Philip is well versed in all things Crescent City, including its history and its rich cocktail and culinary traditions. His Orleanian ancestors include Antoine Amedee Peychaud, the creator of Peychaud’s Bitters and the original Sazerac cocktail.
Phil manages the Museum’s monthly cocktail seminar program in D.C., and also has been a guest presenter for the Smithsonian Institute, Tales of the Cocktail (an annual New Orleans festival), the Polished Palate RumFest, the Manhattan Cocktail Classic, Miami Rum Renaissance, the Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S., and other organizations. He has been interviewed and/or featured in the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, New York Post, Washington Times, New Orleans Times Picayune, as well as on National Public Radio and Radio New Zealand. Phil is also a Brand Ambassador for Domaine de Canton French Ginger Liqueur, and does outreach, cocktail design, consultation, staff training, guest bartending, and other duties for Maurice Cooper et Cie, LLC. Additionally, Phil is working on a book titled To Have and Have Another – The Hemingway Bartender’s Companion, and is presenting a cocktail seminar at the Ernest Hemingway Home in Key West later in 2010.
